Please see two suspicious events reported by our neighbouring Block Watch Coordinator which occurred in the early morning hours today. If you see any suspicious activity, please report it to the RCMP as soon as possible which will enable the police to track and monitor these events for future enforcement. Given the increased activity in and around our communities, the RCMP Block Watch Coordinator for South Surrey has been contacted to determine if there is an enforcement plan in place and to request directed patrols in the area.

Incident #1

FILE NUMBER:  TBA

DATE & TIME:  Tuesday, October 13, 5:20 am

LOCATION:  Area of 28B Ave & 161 Street which expanded to a number of areas (see description below)

DESCRIPTION OF SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY:

At around 5:20am this morning, a resident’s dog alerted them to noise outside. A white male and female were quickly walking up and around the block (28A&B, 161and160A). The male was wearing dark baggy clothing and the female was dressed like a yoga instructor with fitted clothing, blonde hair in a ponytail with a Lululemon-type head band carrying a white and black coloured bag over her shoulder. The suspicious persons were like a Barbie and Ken couple, good-looking and young (20-30 years of age). They walked on opposite sides of the street and opened unlocked car doors parked on 28B. They were last seen headed east on the paved path next to the greenbelt towards 161A Street.

The non-emergency RCMP line was called and a case file set up.

UPDATE:  A discarded backpack was found on the path this morning by the mailboxes. It’s a green Eddie Bauer bag with diapers and kids clothes. It’s still there if the owner wants to pick it up. It’s probably from the suspicious activity witnessed earlier this morning.

Incident #2

FILE NUMBER:  TBA

DATE & TIME:  Tuesday, October 13, 5:24 am

LOCATION:  16086 – 28A Ave.

DESCRIPTION OF SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY:

At 5:24 am this morning, the front yard perimeter alarm was triggered at the above residence.  When Ray looked out the balcony door from the upstairs bedroom he saw a male crossing the street at the corner of 161 St and 28A Ave and headed down 161 towards 28B.  There was another individual on the other side of the street headed in the same direction.  It is likely these individuals were the same as the ones in the above report given they were 4 minutes apart.

911 was called and the suspicious activity reported.  We continued to watch the area and at about 5:45 am a dark older model SUV was spotted driving west on 28A Ave and turned south up 161 St towards 28 Ave.

The RCMP cruiser arrived at 5:52 am.

Given Incident #1 above noted the individuals were opening car doors on vehicles that had not been locked and that a discarded backpack was found by the mailboxes on 28B with diapers and children’s clothing, the individuals did gain access to vehicle(s).  PLEASE CHECK YOUR VEHICLES FOR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT BE MISSING NO MATTER HOW SMALL AND REPORT TO ME.  I will forward on to our Crime Prevention Coordinator.

I can’t stress enough the importance of making sure your vehicles and homes are secure at all times.  Criminals wait for opportunity and then commit their crime.  Let’s not give them the opportunity to attack and maybe they will move elsewhere.
