Water leaks are unfortunately a problem that any one of as home owners may experience – from a failed refrigerator water valve, leaking toilet, washing machine or any number of water sources in our homes. Unfortunately when such leaks occur, most home owners are not home or not able to catch them in time before there is catastrophic damage.

One solution that can help provide early notice of a leak and avoid costly insurance claims is a Water Leak Detection Device. These are electronic devices that are easy to installed with minimal effort in areas where leaks may occur such as under your refrigerator, laundry room or behind a toilet.

Depending on the devices, they can detect in some cases trace amounts of water and set off an audible alarm to alert the occupant. Some devices can also send an alert to a device via a wifi connection so even if your are not home you can received an early alert.

I have done some research of what devices are available on the market and there are many. One of the top picks is the Sedna Water Leak Detection System by Sinope

Recently a number of owners have installed this unit which attaches to the main water valve and comes with a number of wifi sensors. This device also has a battery backup audible alarm and wifi connectivity to send push notifications or email message to smart devices. Once water is detected, the device immediately turns off the main water supply and sends out alerts. The device was tested an worked immediately and flawlessly. The associated app allows you to monitor the system and provided ability to turn the water off or on remotely. The device is available on Amazon but requires a certified plumber to install the main shutoff valve.

There are many devices out there as you can imagine so I recommend doing some research yourself for the best model that meets your personal needs.

Anyone looking to purchase the just the main valve alone can contact Eric Batut Unit #8 – 3109 side of complex. Sensors are available on Amazon.ca
