This information is being reposted due to a recent failure of a water valves on the Fisher Paykel Refrigerators which resulted in extensive water damage. These insurance claims are the responsibility of the individual homeowners and in at least one case the claim was approximately $20,000.

The problem is the water valve located on the lower right corner of the refrigerator at the back that fails without warning (see pic below). The replacement cost for the valve is $139.00 plus tax and installation more if you are not able to undertake this relatively simply installation yourself.

Anyway food for thought, please see picture of part and part number (814859). This part is available through Reliable Parts, Surrey.

Several owners have taken steps to replace the valve as preventative maintenance and although $139.00 may seem expensive, consider the inconvience of having to move out of your home while remediation is undertaken and the fact the cost of the part is a small portion of the your deductible should you need to make a claim.

It is also recommended owners invest in water leakage detection devices to alert them in the event of any water leaks from any number of appliances or toilets. There are many devices available on the market that provide early warnings, some of which send notifications via cell phone apps. Other can be connected to the main water supply that will shut off the water once a leak is detected.

Note: If you are experiencing problems with you appliance, it is highly recommended you contact a qualified technician for repairs.
