Attention Block Watch Members,

“At 1:44 pm yesterday (August 12, 2015), Surrey RCMP investigated a break and enter to a South Surrey residence located in the 16700 block of 28th Avenue.

Shortly after noon today  a 70 year old woman returned to her South Surrey home after being out for the morning.  Shortly after arriving home, a male entered the home and presented a weapon and confined the woman by restraining her .  The male demanded cash and other items, however, the woman was not able to meet his demands.  The male proceeded to both physically and sexually assault the woman causing significant injuries. the male eventually departed with only a few items.

The woman was able to free herself from the restraints that she was bound with and take refuge at a neighbours home where she immediately called police.  The woman is in hospital being treated for her non life-threatening injuries.

The suspect in this matter is described at this time as a male between 20-30 approximately 5’8″ – 6′ tall.  Surrey RCMP Serious Crime investigators are working at obtaining a more fulsome description of the suspect and hope to have something out to the community very soon.

The suspect is not in custody and police want the community to be on alert, especially in the area in which this occurred.

“This is an incomprehensible crime says Staff Sergeant Dale Carr, to prey on anyone is way off side, but then to prey on a 70 yr old woman is unconscionable”

The Surrey RCMP Serious Crime unit and LMD Forensic Identification Team are working together in order to advance this investigation.  If any one that lives in the general area saw anything out of place or suspicious prior to or around noon today please call the Surrey RCMP.  The smallest bit of information may assist this investigation in swiftly capturing this male.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.”

Please remember to keep your doors and windows locked at all times and ensure that you are being vigilant of your surroundings. If anyone comes to the door do not feel like you need to answer the door unless you know who it is. It is important that you ensure they know someone is home, however, that you are not interested in whatever they may be wanting.

Thank you so much for all that you do in the community and please stay safe!
