See below details regarding the latest update on the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) initiative. So far we have held one training session and have room for another session. If you wish to sign up for on-site training, please send your name, and unit number to Willscreekcommunity@gmail.com.

Wills Creek AED Initiative

This document is intended to update residents and owners on the progress of our Automated External Defibrillator (AED) initiative.

What is an AED?

An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is a portable, life-saving device used in cases of sudden cardiac arrest. It automatically analyzes the heart’s rhythm and, if required, delivers a controlled electrical shock to help restore a normal heartbeat. When used together with CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), an AED can greatly increase the chance of survival.

As you’ll recall, the owners at Wills Creek approved the purchase and installation of an AED for our community. A dedicated committee which includes residents with medical expertise was formed to guide the rollout. The committee conducted thorough research and due diligence to ensure the device is introduced safely and responsibly.

The AED is now fully operational, approved by Council, and installed in a cabinet inside the main entrance of the Amenities Building.

Why We Installed One

Following approval at the most recent AGM, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has now been installed in our community. This important initiative enhances our emergency preparedness and is designed to improve both safety and response readiness in the event of a cardiac emergency.

Training and Familiarity

While AEDs are straightforward to operate and provide step-by-step voice instructions, basic CPR/AED training helps build confidence. Two medical professionals within our community have recently completed certification and strongly recommend training for residents. Since then, eight residents have taken part in a session, and plans are already underway to organize another class soon. We encourage all residents to consider participating in this valuable training.

“This training was instrumental in equipping me with confidence… Our AED is such a gift to our community.” — Jo T.

“Very informative and hands-on; Denzel was an awesome instructor and made us feel at ease.” — Ajay & Shona

“We all left with confidence that we could handle an emergency… having the AED on site is a big advantage.” — Linda & Alicia K.

“Low key and informative… we all wanted to be there, which made instruction easy.” — Steve W.

“Excellent course and instructor and encourage all residents to take the training” —Tom  J.

Learning Resources

In addition to the on-site training, we’ve included links below to the ZOLL AED online tutorial and the user manual. While the AED is designed to be simple and provides step-by-step voice prompts during use, this brief tutorial is highly recommended. It only takes a few minutes to review and could be invaluable should you ever need to operate the unit.
