Please see attached message from your Surrey Police Block Watch Coordinator regarding a name change for Block Watch captains and Co-Captains. For Block Watch participants, this will have no affect on you or the program itself.
Hello Captains & Co-Captains,
We are excited to share a positive update regarding the Block Watch program! The Block Watch Society of BC has officially changed the title of “Block Watch Captain” to “Block Watch Lead.”
This is a change for the better, as the term Lead is more inclusive and collaborative, better reflecting the spirit of neighbours working together. It also modernizes the title and emphasizes that the role is about coordination and facilitation rather than implying a role of authority.
While the name has changed, the responsibilities of the role remain the same. So, whether you were a Captain or Co-Captain, you are now a Block Watch Lead, and we encourage you to continue supporting your group as you always have.
In our records, Captains are still identified as the primary contact for our office, and nothing will change with that, unless otherwise requested.
What do you need to do? Next time you update your participating household map/list or other information you share, remember to make the change 😊
Having said that, you will still see “Captain” on many of our materials as it will take some time to make all the updates, including the Captain/Co-Captain/Participant Guide.
Big thanks to all of you who stepped up to be volunteers for the Block Watch program. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks
Heather
